Firefly is a set of comprehensive software tools dedicated to bridging the gap between Grasshopper (a free plug-in for Rhino), the Arduino micro-controller, the internet and beyond. It allows near real-time data flow between the digital and physical worlds, and will read/write data to/from internet feeds, remote sensors and more. It also includes a Pachube reader.

skôn is an exploration into textiles and electronics by Paula Kassenaar and Paula Segura Meccia. The front part of the hoodie is a knitted variable resistor. Its resistance varies when you toy with it. This changing resistance value is used to change the intensity of the light strip in the front edge of the hoodie.

Augmented Shadow by Joon Moon is a design experiment producing an artificial shadow effect through the use of tangible objects, blocks, on a displayable tabletop interface. The project plays on the fact that shadows present distorted silhouettes depending on the light. Augmented Shadows take the distortion effect into the realm of fantasy.

There’s a hive of activity around hacking Kinect but this one really caught my eye. Emily and Theo from Design I/O made this light puppet in a day with the libfreenect Kinect drivers and ofxKinect. “The system is doing skeleton tracking on the arm and determining where the shoulder, elbow, and wrist is, using it to control the movement and posture of the giant funky bird!”
