I’m Here - a short film by by Spike Jonze is a robot love story celebrating a life enriched by creativity. The movie is set in contemporary L.A., where life moves at a seemingly regular pace with the exception of a certain amount of robot residents who live among the population.
“What about the impossible? Or the barely possible? Or the unprofitable, but possible and desireable? You see what I mean? How do yo get out of the rut of assuming that everything must be a product — desirable, profitable and possible — and actually innovate? Make new impossible things? Or new, weird things only desirable to 17 people?”
“The battle for the mind of North America will be fought in the video arena: the Videodrome. The television screen is the retina of the mind’s eye. Therefore, the television screen is part of the physical structure of the brain. Therefore, whatever appears on the television screen emerges as raw experience for those who watch it. Therefore, television is reality, and reality is less than television.”
The Journey is the second of two video sketches by BERG illustrating some of the ideas and principles behind Dentsu London’s communications strategy Making Future Magic.
They take a look at the variety of screens and media surfaces in a train station and the possibilities that open up from seeing them slight differently.
There’s no real new technology at play in any of these ideas, just different connections and flows of information being made in the background – quietly, gradually changing how screens, bits of print ephemera such as train tickets, and objects in the world can inter-relate to make someone’s journey a bit less stressful, a bit more delightful.
Here, media includes messages from friends and social services, like Foursquare or Twitter, and also more functional messages from companies or services like banks or airlines alongside large traditional big ‘M’ Media (like broadcast or news publishing).
