Teagueduino is an open source electronic board and interface that allows you to realize creative ideas without soldering or knowing how to code, while teaching you the ropes of programming and embedded development (like Arduino).

Raspberry Pi is a 128meg, 700MHz ARM based Linux box in a USB stick with Ethernet and 1080p HDMI output.
“Following the example of the BBC Micro, we intend to launch both a Model A device (lacking the LAN9512, and with 128MB of RAM) at the $25 price point, and a Model B device (including the LAN9512, and with 256MB of RAM) for a $5-10 additional cost. We remain confident of shipping before the end of 2011”.
Alpha boards are now being manufactured.
(Thanks Carl)

Even those practitioners who don’t themselves write much code will find themselves on interdisciplinary collaborative teams of artists, designers and programmers. Such collaborations are often doomed to failure because of the inability to communicate across the cultural divide between the artists and programmers. Only practitioners who combine procedural literacy with a conceptual and historical grounding in art and design can bridge this gap and enable true collaboration.

If you’re at all interested in anything I post here and have an interest in designing and making interactive stuff I can’t recommend this enough. The week I spent at CIID was one of my highlights of 2010 (after getting married and the honeymoon of course).
“CIID Summer School is a series of back-to-back workshops where participants can choose to take part in one, two or three of the available modules.
Participants will gain an overview about what interaction is and how interaction design can define behaviours. They will then have the opportunity to learn hands-on practical skills for designing tangible and graphical interfaces.
Running between 11-29th July, there are 25 places available on each module and we recommend that people participate in the full three-week programme for maximum benefit.”

Cubelets are construction kits by Modular Robotics. By combining sensor, logic and actuator blocks, young kids can create simple reconfigurable robots that exhibit surprisingly complex behaviour.

Dieter Rams and Jurgen Greubel designed the Braun Lectron System (1967- 69) as a teaching tool for use in schools and universities. It is made up of a large range of little bricks, like dominoes, that magnetically connect to one another. Once the blocks are organized on a conductive plate, they can form a variety of functional circuits. See this great article on it from a 1967 issue of Electronics Illustrated, where they discuss “what a drag” it is to make your own circuits, but “now it can be as much fun to put electronic circuits together and to learn fundamentals as it is to put words together when you play Scrabble”.
